The “Don’t Miss This Show” Show to Benefit City Schools Music Programs

April 14, 2009 by scefstaff

A benefit concert to raise money for music programs in the Santa Cruz City Schools will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m.small-poster-11 at the Rio Theatre. The “Don’t Miss This Show” Show will feature talented young Santa Cruz performers, including many who participate in district arts programs. Presented by Cruzville Productions with the support of the Santa Cruz Education Foundation, this exciting extravaganza of singers, dancers, musicians and jugglers is guaranteed to delight.

Scheduled performers include 14 year old singer/songwriter Tess Dunn, Musicscool All Stars, California State Diabolo Juggling Champion Chris Garcia, singer/guitarist Kellen Coffis, SCHS Bagpipe Corps, Te Hau Nui Polynesian Dancers, Meaningless Sax, Motion Pacific Dance Company, Mission Hill Jugglers and One Piece Breakdancers. Richard Stockton from Planet Cruz will MC; also featured will be a special performance by Grammy Award nominee Tammi Brown.

The “Don’t Miss this Show” event was initiated by a group of Santa Cruz business professionals concerned about the steadily declining budget for music programs in the schools.  Studies confirm that children who are exposed to music and music performance in school show many benefits including increased academic performance, self-esteem, concentration, self-expression and sense of connectedness to school.

Tickets for The “Don’t Miss This Show” Show are $16 ($18 at the door) for adults, $8 ($10 at the door) for students and $35 for Gold Circle and are available at Streetlight Records, Rio Box Office (night of show only) and www.riotheatre.com and Ticket Web.
