Santa Cruz Mayor Ryan Coonerty dropped by to congratulate students for their accomplishment and accepted a book the students made about their journey from teacher Alyssa Cardenas.
Delaveaga Elementary School 4th graders have been getting in shape by running the length of our Golden State’s coast. Well, virtually. Each week students run on the playground, calculate their combined mileage, and give a brief description of which town or city they’ve reached. Students began at the border of Mexico and will run to the border of Oregon by the end of the year. Through this activity, they learn math, geography, history and environmental justice. Their first major milestone was to make it 486 miles to Santa Cruz for the holidays. Thankfully, they did in fact make it home for the holidays.
