This poignant work written and performed by the Soquel High Advanced Theater class, takes an unflinching look at bullying and the very real impact that words – written and verbal – have on young people. Led by drama teacher Maggie Kline, the students perform the piece using their real names.
This is a very powerful piece written by the students in response to the bullying issue at high Schools. The students present a bold look at how bullying affects the lives of students. They use their own names as proud recognition that they believe in the power of what they are doing.
As an active parent of younger children, I am aware that bullying is a frustrating issue at all levels.
The group hopes to take their performance to area middle and high schools. They have already been invited to present an excerpt at the Santa Cruz County Schools Boards Association meeting held at Soquel High on January 20, 2011.
