Spectra Artist Lynn Guenther and student crew create 48′ mural
Student volunteers led by parent and SPECTRA art teacher Lynn Guenther have created a dynamic and colorful mural for the Santa Cruz High School gym. The 48′ x8′ mural, entitled “The Line-Up” pays homage to school sports, representing football, softball, baseball, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, swimming, water polo, track, cross country, wrestling and golf athletes.
The project was underwritten by the Santa Cruz High School PTA as a gift from the Class of 2011 and part of campus-wide beautification efforts. Additional support was provided by ProBuild enabling the crew to purchase necessary supplies and equipment. Lynn Guenther donated her expertise to the coordination of design, student volunteers, materials and meeting the challenges of working on a difficult to reach facade.
The new mural faces the recently opened pool facility and renovated track and field. It is visible to motorists traveling on Laurel Street.
Participating muralists, all students from SCHS art teacher Katie Harper’s classes, were Sarah Pierce, Marie Powell, Erin Coffey, Mathilda Spiers, Marcus Eisendorf, Nina Lutz , Anne Soares and graduates Alyssa Strong, Kaila Pearson, Natalie Williams.
