Alanna Williams, a Senior at Santa Cruz High School has been named a candidate for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars program. The program recognizes the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Only 141 students nationwide will be honored with the designation. Of the several hundred California students under consideration, Ms. Williams is the only student from Santa Cruz County schools to receive an invitation to apply.

Students chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholars will travel to Washington, D. C. in June and attend the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House. During their stay, students will have the opportunity to meet government officials, educators, authors, musicians, scientists and other accomplished individuals. Semifinalists will be identified in early April; Scholars will be named in May.
