Matt’s Climb Scholarship Available for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors

Deadline:  April 3, 2014

Know a teen who would enjoy a summer wilderness trip? Please pass this along!

The Matt’s Climb Scholarship offers a high school Freshman, Sophomore or Junior the chance to attend  Camp Unalayee in the Trinity Alps of Northern California.

What is the Matts Climb Scholarship?
The scholarship was created in memory of Matthew Kennedy in 2001. Funding comes from the Matts Climb Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County (www.cfscc.org).

What is Camp Unalayee?
Camp Unalayee (www.unalayee.org) is a summer wilderness camp for ages 10-17.  Campers may divide their session between in camp and backpacking time, depending on their interests. Camp Unalayee staff will meet with the Matt’s Climb Scholarship awardee to help them develop their session, based on their level of experience and sense of adventure.

What does the Matt’s Climb Scholarship cover?
The scholarship pays for up to $2,000 toward the tuition to attend Camp Unalayee (this will entirely cover the cost of a 2-week session). Transportation to and from the Camp Unalayee offices in Palo Alto and the actual camp location in the Trinity Alps is included in the cost of tuition.  There is a $100 stipend to help offset the cost of camping equipment, hiking boots, and gear.
