Grant to clean, restore and landscape the Santa Cruz High Quad
The Santa Cruz High Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was awarded a $4,900 grant from Lowe’s aimed at cleaning, restoring and landscaping the quad area at Santa Cruz High. The grant proposal was predicated on the installation of five security gates, which are hoped to prevent further vandalism to the area. The gates will be built to completely enclose the SC High quad area by late summer. According to district staff, the fences should be completed late summer. The gate being replaced is a walk through gate. The drive-through gate will be replaced in the future as funds allow. The district will also be putting a gate in the lower yard with a keypad for staff entrance.
The Lowe’s grant is split 50/50 between equipment for parent volunteers (weed whackers, power washer, painting supplies, brooms rakes, etc.) and landscaping supplies (Native and Mediterranean plants, plus decorative boulders.) The new landscaping may be planned for the fall or winter, when the winter rains begin, but there’s plenty to be done in the interim.
“We are thrilled to have these resources to rejuvenate our campus and this project will mesh beautifully with the new gates” said Maria Guara, Santa Cruz High School PTA President.
